Building the Design System Behind Gozango's First Funding Round

Gozango is an early-stage high-level B2B SaaS startup building an all-in-one marketing and lead-generation platform for home service, legal, and healthcare businesses, industries that have historically been underserved by modern, well-designed software. When I joined, the product had a working concept but no cohesive design language, and the founders were preparing to raise their first round of funding.

The problem wasn't features. It was trust.

Early-stage B2B products are judged as much on how credible they look as on what they do. Investors and early customers alike make fast, often subconscious judgments about whether a product is serious or still finding its feet. Gozango's founders understood their market deeply, but the product's visual and structural inconsistency was quietly working against them.

Understanding the competitive landscape first

Before touching Figma, I spent time studying Gozango's closest competitors, established players serving the same home service, legal, and healthcare verticals. I wasn't just looking at what those products did, I was mapping where their strengths and gaps actually sat: which workflows felt effortless, which felt clunky, and where Gozango's actual product capabilities already outpaced what competitors offered but weren't being communicated clearly.

That research reshaped the brief. The goal wasn't to make Gozango look like its competitors, it was to make Gozango's genuine advantages visible and legible, since several real differentiators were getting lost inside inconsistent UI patterns and unclear information hierarchy.

Building the system

From there, I built Gozango's design system and rebuilt the full UX from the ground up: a coherent visual language, responsive web interfaces, and structured, engineering-ready handoffs. I worked directly with the founders through weekly check-ins, keeping design decisions grounded in real business priorities rather than aesthetic preference alone, every choice had to earn its place by either reducing user friction or strengthening the product's credibility.

The outcome

A consistent, trustworthy product experience that reflected the seriousness of the team behind it. Shortly after, Gozango closed its first round of funding, with the product experience playing a genuine part in how the company presented itself to investors and early customers.
